      • That the ongoing teaching of God’s word in the Capitol is bearing fruit in leaders’ lives and many are maturing in Christ.
      • That God has been opening doors to meet and share about Jesus with many more leaders.
    • Prayer:

Henry and Grace Banda—YOLEDS (Youth Leadership Development in Sport) (Malawi)

Friends: a couple of months ago, the Bandas suffered a disaster when their roof was blown off in a storm, and the house and many of their possessions ruined by the heavy rains that came in. Fortunately, the family was not injured. Please pray for them as they recover from this disaster.

    • Praise:
      • For God’s faithfulness to me, my family and ministry.
      • For the success of a Theological Sports Seminar put on by Cornerstone Evangelical Assembly Church, held at the Dzaleka refugee camp, 40 miles from Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital. The seminar drew 48 participants from 17 different churches!
    • Prayer:
      • For God’s provision for more Swahili-English Bibles for future seminars. We had the funds to host all of the sports events during the two-day seminars, but needed more bilingual Bibles for the attendees.
      • For peace in Malawi. The state of our country is not good. Since the elections on May 21, the country has been unstable, as the opposition parties contested the results and violence has broken out in the cities. Pray for a calming of the tensions between the groups and an end to the violence.

      • For the arrival of our first granddaughter on August 19! Both baby Ellie Ruth and mom are doing great!
    • Prayer:
      • For the success of those we trained in the Philippines to start churches that will stand the tests of time.
      • For the continued hard work of following up with families. Our stateside church here, Parkside Church, reached out to 275 children, and Karen and Jay shared the Gospel with interested parents. Pray for guidance to the families as they make decisions about their faith.

  • Lincoln Christian Academy (formerly Community Christian School), Lincoln, CA (USA)
    • Praise:
      • That we now have 60 students in our elementary school—a 28% increase over last year!
      • That Hudson (our second-grader with cancer for whom we listed for prayer two months ago) made it through his surgery to remove the tumor behind his eye and did not lose his vision. He is recovering from surgery and continues to fight. Please continue to pray for healing and remission of cancer.
    • Prayer:
      • For guidance and direction as our leadership is revisioning. We would like prayer support for the plans for our school over the next 5-10 years as well as prayer for additional people to serve on our Board.
      • For God’s provision for additional support. As we get to know our students, we see a need for support in reading and math. Please pray for us as we seek ways to meet these needs through volunteers, staff, and curriculum.

Ruth Veltkamp—Set Free Ministries (Nigeria)

  • Praise:
    • For the return of some IMANI members to the fold. Some years ago, Muslims went after IMANI members to lure them back into Islam, bribing them with farms, irrigation pumps, and other “lures.” Recently, 68 people who left IMANI repented, returned the lands and equipment to the Muslims, and have come back to Jesus. May they now remain faithful and continue to mature in the Way of Jesus.
    • For healing Neza, the leader of the ministry among widows and orphans.
    • For Rusina’s successful trip to the Middle East. During 10 days there, he taught a seminar for new believers and seekers.
  • Prayer:
    • For wisdom for IMANI leaders as they give witness and teach in a seminar called by the leaders of NASFAT. NASFAT is a “denomination” of Muslims in southwest Nigeria. Half of their leaders are women. (Neza was raised in NASFAT.)
    • For resources and wisdom for Sitana to travel to Mali to comfort the persecuted and bereaved believers there.
    • For the continued opening of the hearts of our enemies. Some of the leaders of IMN, the Muslim “denomination” that Akiza founded as a Muslim, are now showing interest in the Way of Jesus. These leaders had noted with amazement Akiza’s change from violence to non-violence. Pray for God to open their hearts to receive the Prince of Peace unto transformation for eternity.

        • For a strong start to our daughter Sofia’s school year at Black Forest Academy. She is a senior this year!

        • Pray for our family as we try to find “the new normal” with our oldest daughter Bianca away in Indiana at Taylor University. Pray for her starting a life away from “the nest” and for us as we miss her terribly.
